Abstract
The fungi isolated from Lagos lagoon and decomposing sawdust in the lagoon included Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Asperghillus gigateus, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus tamarii, Candida famata, Cladosporium oxysporum, Curvularia geniculata and Debaryomyces hansenii. others are Fusarium solani, Geotrichum candidum, Mucor haemalis, Paecilomyces variotii, Penicillium species, Trichoderma aureoviride and an unidentified basidiomycete. The fungal population of Lagos lagoon varied with season, the population being highest in the rainy season (March - October) when there was increased organic matter content (188mg/l), greaterturbidity (0.3m) and reduced salinity (2.0%).
