Abstract
This paper examines the necessity of traditional socio-cultural systems for stability and security in Nigeria. The paper argues that despite the incorporation of western values into traditional social institutions, indigenous values remain strong. Further, the mixture of traditional and western values has created dilemma which affect stability and security in the Nigerian societies. Therefore, it is concluded that indigenous knowledge system is very important and should be utilised in promoting stability, security and development in Nigeria.
