Abstract
It has been widely acknowledged that there is a strong relationship between fiscal policy and poverty reduction.Theory and evidence suggest that a well-focused fiscal policy serves as an instrument for poverty reduction. However; the Nigerian situation appears to exhibit a high prevalence of policy conflicts and inconsistencies; hence, the need for this study. This paper seeks to explore the extent to which fiscal policies have affected poverty reduction in Nigeria between . . 1960 and 2004. This is done with a view to drawing some policy implications/or economic transformation.
