- ItemOpen AccessEffect of Diphenylthiocarbazone and Diphenylcarbazone on Acid Corrosion of Aluminium in HCl Solution - Part 1(2009) Abiola, O.K.; Oforka, N.C.; Ifelebuegu, A.O.; Fasina, T.M.; Babatunde, A.I.The inhibitory effect of diphenylthiocarbazone (DPTC) and diphenyl carbazone (DPC) on acid corrosion of aluminium 2S alloy in 0.5 M HCI has been investigated using chemical technique. DPTC and DPC have moderate inhibitory effects on the corrosion of aluminium in HCl solution. The protection efficiency increases with increasing concentration of the compounds. DPTC exhibits higher maximum inhibition efficiency than DPC. The difference in the inhibition behaviour of the compounds is explained on the basis of the difference in election donor ability of thesulphur and oxygen atoms. The adsorption of the compounds via their adsorption centers on the aluminium surface obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The ∆G0ads values were calculated using thermodynamic equations.
- ItemOpen AccessInhibitive properties and quantum chemical studies of thiodiglycolic acid on aluminium corrosion in HCl solution(African corrosion journal, 2015-04) Abiola, O.K.; Oloba-whenu, O.A.The corrosion inhibitive effect of thiodiglycolic acid (TGDA) on aluminium immersed in 0.5 M HCl solution was evaluated by chemical method. It was found that TGDA acts as a corrosion inhibitor, yielding a maximum inhibition efficiency of 89.2 ±0.2%. The mechanism of its corrosion inhibition is by adsorption onto the metal’s surface. The corresponding standard Gibbs energy of TGDA adsorption on Al was calculated to be – 37.4 kJ mol- 1. The quantum chemical parameters, highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels and HOMO –LUMO energy gap of TGDA were calculated using density functional theory (DFT).
