- ItemOpen AccessArtificial neural network-based learning analytics technique for employability and self-sustenance(The journal of computer science and its applications, 2018-12) Adewole, P.; Okewu, E.The growing global rate of unemployment buttresses the quest for functional and all-inclusive education as canvassed by the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4). Employability of graduates and entrepreneurial skills for self-sustenance can be fostered through Learning Analytics (LA) - a pedagogical paradigm that inculcates data analytics and team work skills in learners. LA measures the learning process by collecting learning-related data, analyzing same, and reporting trends to stakeholders for adaptive learning solutions that improve learning experience and learning outcomes. Though there are many data science techniques for enhancing LA, artificial neural network stands out as a highly predictive data mining tool and machine learning technique. An Artificial Neural Network-based Learning Analytics (ANN-based LA) system uses regression analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive analytics to elicit robust information from learner’s data for informed decision making by education stakeholders. However, there are open issues confronting ANN-based LA systems such as system quality issues, prolonged time of training neural network, and the huge memory space requirements. This paper proposes an n-tier layered software architecture for tackling the quality indicator concerns while hoping that upcoming researchers will resolve the others. This way, ANN-based LA will be repositioned for delivering functional education that promotes graduate employment through the impartation of industry-relevant skills like data analytics and team work.
- ItemOpen AccessA Genetic Algorithm for Solving Travelling Salesman Problem(International Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications, 2011) Adewole, P.; Akinwale, A.T.; Otunbanowo, KIn this paper we present a Genetic Algorithm for solving the Travelling Salesman problem (TSP). Genetic Algorithm which is a very good local search algorithm is employed to solve the TSP by generating a preset number of random tours and then improving the population until a stop condition is satisfied and the best chromosome which is a tour is returned as the solution. Analysis of the algorithmic parameters (Population, Mutation Rate and Cut Length) was done so as to know how to tune the algorithm for various problem instances.
- ItemOpen AccessManaging Human Induced Crisis with Big Data Infrastructure(Journal of Research and Review in Science, 2018-12) Ojerinde, A; Adewole, P.Introduction: This paper presents human induced crisis management system using big data infrastructure. This approach was motivated by the already established fact that human induced crisis are characterized by velocity, variety and volume. Materials and Methods: This paper therefore employed Hadoop big data stack, web technology to design and implement a crisis management model. Results: The resulting system comprises analytical engine, custom website and a desktop application called “Channel”. The Hadoop distributed file system was used for data storage in the analytical engine, crisis data were collected via Twitter API and web service generated by the project website using Apache Flume and Channel respectively. Apache Hive was used to analyse the collected data and the analysed result were posted back to custom website using Channel. The system was evaluated using Mean Opinion Score (MOS) to test for its applicability, usability and reliability. Conclusion: The perceived applicability rating of 74%, usability rating of 73% and reliability rating of 57% were obtained. The resulting system provides insight into crisis; promote rapid situational awareness, aid policy formulation and monitoring.
- ItemOpen AccessA Receipt-free Multi-Authority E-Voting System(British Journal of Education (European Centre For Research Training And Development UK), 2017-02) Adewole, P.; Ojo, B.O.Selection of test items is a vital step in test development procedure. Test items could be selected either through the item card or Item Characteristic Curve (ICC). In recent times ICC, has become a vital tool in the selection of tests items as it shows graphically the psychometric properties of the test items. At a glance the curve gives such information as discriminating, difficulty and guessing value (depending on the model). This study works on modeling of 2- parameter model of Item Response Theory (IRT) to generate the item characteristics curve using a software in addition to the windows Microsoft excel application. It also involves a do-it-yourself guide using the windows excel application. The experimental result shows that the ICC curve could be a vital tool in determining the suitability of item for section in a test.
