The original protocol for its placement advocates leaving the implant unloaded for a three to six-month period before placing the prosthesis. In more recent times, loading implants right after they are placed within the bone have been achieved, offering several advantages to the patients. This study aims to evaluate the one-year survival rate of immediately loaded dental implants. Materials and methods: This prospective, longitudinal and interventional study evaluated the one-year survival rate of immediately loaded single dental implants cases in 35 subjects that were rehabilitated using the one stage implant protocol. Subject follow up was done for at intervals over a one-year period with data collected at each visitation. Analysis of data gathered was done using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software (SPSS) version 22 (IBM Corp, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: A cumulative survival rate of 80% was obtained with 28 out of 35 implants surviving after the one-year review period. All mandibular implants survived while a survival rate of 72% obtained in the maxilla. Furthermore, 87.5% of immediately loaded implants placed in the posterior region survived, which is higher than the 73.7% implant survival rate observed in the anterior region. Conclusion: Provided the conditions are favourable for its use, immediately loaded implant protocol should be considered as the protocol has a one-year survival rate that compares favorably with the conventional protocol for implant placement.
