It was an ex-post factor research design with a sample size of 201. The paper has gathered data using two research instruments namely: Categories of Meta-Cognitive Skills (CMCS) and Factors Influencing Choice of Meta-Cognitive Skills (FICMS). Data were analysed using simple percentages and descriptive statistics. The result has shown that vocational education students have acquired meta- cognitive skill through rote-learning of introductory chemistry rather than solving problems collaboratively. It has also shown that assessment structure, motivation, self-efficacy, time management and prior knowledge were some of the factors that have influenced the students' choice of the meta-cognitive skill. The implication for learning is emphasized. The paper has suggested that feedback needs to be emphasized during teaching-learning situation since it helps students to appreciate what they already know and understand what they need to learn for meta- cognitive skills acquisition. It concludes that the vocational education students without prior knowledge and meaningful understanding of the first twenty elements (electrochemical series) as depicted in the introductory chemistry, undertake a steep learning curve and may not cope effectively in some courses in their areas of specialization
