Abstract
“The school for the society and the society for the school” The school is a specialized agency through which the society achieves the various benefits of education such as social reforms, solution to social problems of insecurity, unemployment and anti-social conduct among her youths. The school is built to serve the society and propagate societal goals and in turn the school depends on the society for sustenance. How has the community supported the school to achieve its mandate? This study therefore examined the impact of community involvement in education on social life of primary school pupils in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study utilized a descriptive research design. Using simple random sampling technique, a sample size of one hundred and fifty (n = 150) participants was drawn from the study population of, all the primary school pupils in Epe L.G.A Two research questions and two corresponding hypotheses were formulated to guide the study while a self-designed questionnaire (r = 0.70) was the instrument used in data collection. Chi-square statistical tool was employed in testing the stated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed a significant impact of community involvement on pupils discipline (X = 38.72). also found significant was community involvement on the enforcement of social values and culture (X = 43.32) among the pupils. The study thus recommended among others that the host community of schools should provide both financial and moral support to the schools. Parents and Teachers Associations (P.T.A) of schools should provide rewards to well-behaved pupils in schools to perpetuate same. Through seminars and symposia, parents should be sensitized on parenting skills that will ensure that they bring up well-behaved children.
