This study examined incentive packages as correlates of lecturers’ attitude to work in Colleges of Education in South-West, Nigeria. The study focused on public Colleges of Education in South-West, Nigeria. Correlation design was utilized for the study, while stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select both the institutions and the lecturers that participated in the research. Eight Colleges of Education, comprising four Federal Colleges of Education and four State Colleges of Education were selected, while a total of 630 lecturers constituted the sample. A research instrument titled “Incentive Packages and Lecturers’ Attitude to Work Questionnaire” (IPLAWQ) was used to collect data. Nine research questions and five hypotheses were raised. Research questions were analyzed using descriptive statistics- percentages, mean, standard deviation and ranking. The hypotheses postulated were tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Regression analyses. All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The major findings are that: working facilities and incentive packages for lecturers in Colleges of Education were grossly inadequate; incentive packages would positively enhance lecturers’ attitude to work if adequately provided; incentive packages would positively influence lecturers’ job performance if adequately provided; professional development programme is positively related to lecturers’ job performance; incentive packages is significantly related to lecturers’ attrition and morale. There is therefore the need by concerned authorities to: provide monetary and non-monetary incentives for lecturers; expose lecturers to regular on-the-job training; provide adequate working facilities; provide more funds to Colleges of Education; and individual institution should explore Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) strategies.en_US
