| dc.description.abstract | Drug ingestion is a daily and common phenomenon in every country; among literate and illiterate, the rich and the poor and across various age groups. The essence of regulating medicine is to protect and guide the public in ensuring that only wholesome and efficacious medicines are used. One of the instruments for ensuring rational and safe drug use is the provision of adequate labelling of information which guides the selection and appropriate use if medicines. The study examined knowledge, attitude and practice of the selected persons toward precautionary warnings on registered drug products by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Descriptive survey research method was adopted for the study, Simple random sampling technique and Convenience sampling technique was used to select five (5) Local Government and two hundred and fifty (250) participants in various households in Lagos State. A self –developed and validated Questionnaire with the reliability of r= 0.86 was used for data collection. Data was analysed during the descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages. Findings revealed that respondents agreed that labels are affixed to the packaging of the drugs but, many do not understand the information on the drugs purchased. They also exhibits negative attitude and practice towards the use of drug labels. The study recommended public enlightenment programme on the importance of drug labels while medical workers should embark on counselling of patients during prescription and administration of drugs. Government and policy makers should enforce pharmaceutical companies to maintain standards. | en_US |
