dc.description.abstract | The study investigated the effect of calisthenics exercises on hip-and-trunk flexibility in male and female adults. The participants were thirty-seven apparently healthy men and women (18 males and 19 females) of the Faculty of Education, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos. Their ages ranged from 17-28 years. They were randomly selected from the students that ever participated in organised sporting activities throughout the previous year in the University. Data were collected on hip-and-trunk flexibility (modifies sit and reach) test. One hypothesis was tested at 0.05, level of significance. Mean, Standard Deviation and t-test were used to -analyse the data. There was a significant difference in the hip-and-trunk flexibility of the sexes, t ~ -2.856 (tc — 2.02, df — 36P < 0.05). Difference in means of 3.86 for males and 5.78 for females shows tremendous increase in females' hip-and-trunk flexibility than their male counterparts. It was therefore concluded that calisthenics exercises increased the range of motion of the participants at the joints thereby preventing them from being susceptible to injury when taking part in vigorous physical activities. It was recommended from the results that adults should participate in calisthenics activities (20-30) minutes, three times in a week for enhancing the range of motion thereby increasing flexibility and prevention of injury | en_US |
