| dc.description.abstract | Maxillofacial injuries due to variety of causes are not uncommon in Nigeria. Review of the published medical literature from Nigeria reveals that road traffic crashes, assault, falls, animal attacks, sport and industrial accidents are the major causes of maxillofacial injuries in Nigerian populace. This article reports a very rare and unusual cause of maxillofacial injury sustained by a 60-year-old Nigerian male on a Nigerian water-way. Transportation on Nigerian water-way is increasing in popularity especially in Lagos and other riverine communities due to poor road transportation and economic difficulties. Therefore, there is a need by the government and law enforcement agents to regulate the activities of engine-driven canoes/boats on Nigerian water-ways. Law enforcement and patrol mechanisms to regulate speed-limit should be introduced. | en_US |
