dc.description.abstractThe educational sector in general and particularly the teaching profession has gone through and is still going through a lot of crisis. One of such crisis is inadequate funding. This had led to the best brains leaving the teaching profession and those remaining in the profession are not adequately motivated. Hence, the rate of turnover" in the teaching profession has continued to soar, this study was therefore embarked upon to seek for ways of motivating teachers to make them remain in the teaching profession. Six hypotheses were formulated and a descriptive survey research design was adapted for the study. Are searcher questionnaire was administered to 200 subjects comprising 100 male and 100 female teachers from 50 post-primary schools spread across five local government areas of Lagos State to elicit response on various issues as motivation, satisfaction, retenti.on, absenteeism and performance. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and independent t-test statistical tools were used to enelyze the data obtained from the response of the subjects. Some of the results from the venous data analyze carried out showed that motivation positively correlated with job satisfaction and influenced such factors as job retention and job periormence but did not influence absenteeism. Rather, was discovered that Sack of motivation influenced absenteeism, in addition, it was discovered that professionally trained and female teachers were better motivated the teaching profession. Finally, recommendations were made to those concerned . ../en_US
