dc.description.abstractWidowhood is the state of being a widow. It is a tragedy which befalls married women by the death of their husbands. Although death is natural phenomenon which must occur at one point or the other. This paper seeks to examine the status of widows in Nigeria 240 Nigerians participated in the study (60 each randomly chosen from four states of the federation. Out of the 240 participants, 120 were men while 120 were women The results of the t-test showed that widowers are better treated by the society. There was a significant difference in the perception of the status of widows among men compared to women's perception (t=44.05;t crittcal = 3 29: df = 238; p .005). Some counselling implications of the status of widows in Nigeria were discussed.en_US
