dc.description.abstractThis study examined the effects of interactive video games (exergame) adherence on physiological and physical parameters among adolescents in Lagos State. The pretest posttest experimental control group research design was used for the study. The population comprise 35,365 senior secondary school students in Education district IV of Lagos state. A total of sixty (60) students were selected from the three zones in Education district IV using the multi-stage sampling technique. The three zones in Education district IV are Apapa (6 senior secondary schools), Surulere (10 senior secondary schools) and Mainland (29 senior secondary schools). The following physiological and physical parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, Body Mass Index (BMI), percent body fat and muscle mass were measured. Data was analyzed with the descriptive statistics of frequency counts, mean, standard deviation and the inferential statistics of Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study indicated that there were significant differences in the pretest and posttest values of participants’ heart rate, diastolic and systolic blood pressure, percent body fat and muscle mass. It is recommended that adolescents should adhere to the recommendation of physical exercise in order to get the desired benefits of it, thereby improving their quality of life.
