Abstract
This study revealed the effectiveness of counselling techniques in addressing the problem of destitution and homelessness. Participants who listened to and observed former destitute, homeless and street beggars, who now have more rewarding vocations and businesses, showed willingness in imitating the actions of these models. However, poverty reduction and job creation have not kept pace with population growth, implying social distress for an increasing number of Nigerians. Rehabilitation centres in the country should be well equipped for training and skill acquisition
