dc.description.abstract | The effective application of sociological techniques for the teaching and learning of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) in senior secondary schools can have rewarding effects on teachers’ and students’ moral and ethical orientations in the school and society if strictly applied. This study investigated the effects of sociological strategies on the study of Christian Religious Studies at the senior secondary school level in Lagos State. Four research objectives and four research questions were formulated and answered, while three null hypotheses were tested. The study employed descriptive research survey and quasi-experimental designs for data collection. The simple random sampling technique was used to select 200 participants in 10(ten) senior secondary schools. The independent t-test and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) statistical tools were used for testing of hypotheses. Findings indicated that: interview strategy affects the study of CRS; there was a significant effect of the use of observation strategy on the study of CRS and there was a significant effect of the use logical reasoning strategy on the study of CRS. The study concluded that the application of sociological instruments such as interview, observation and logical reasoning strategies are veritable and result-oriented in the instructional delivery of CRS at the Senior Secondary Schools. Therefore, the study recommends that CRS teachers and students should teach and learn the subject using the sociological strategies stipulated in this study, and that there should be a clear paradigm shift from the use traditional methods of teacher-talk and students’ passive listening in the classrooms. These should give way for the use of modern sociological techniques which are capable of assisting CRS stakeholders to leverage on the effective delivery of the subject at the senior secondary school level in Lagos State, Nigeria. | en_US |
