Abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of inactivity on body mass index of University of Lagos undergraduate students. The participants for the study consisted of twenty one male and twenty two female students aged between eighteen and'twenty five years who were randomly selected. The participants wer-e assigned into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was given intervention programme of circuit strength training. Hypothesis was formulated and tested to determine the effect of inactivity on body mass index. Descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation and range was used to describe the data. Inferential statistics of independent "t" test was used to compare both groups to see if any significance difference exists between them. The result obtained showed that there was no significant difference in body mass index between participants after the study, t = -0.109 (tc= 2.021, df = 41 P > 0.05). It was recommended that students should participate in moderate intensity physical activities for weight reduction.
