dc.description.abstractThis paper examined the explosion of private universities and its implication on the quality of education in Nigeria. Specifically the study sets out to determine the effect of quality teaching personnel and ascertain the impact of adequacy offacilities and infrastructure on the quality of education. Furthermore, the study examined how adequate funding will enhance the quality of education. Four research questions and four hypotheses were raised to guide the study. A descriptive research design was employed targeting all the academic members of staff in Southwest Nigeria. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select one hundred (/00) respondents. Questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection which was validated and the reliability ascertained. Interview H'US also used to corroborate the questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics H'ere employed for data analyses. Some of the major findings were that accreditation of academic programmes ensures that the curricular and learning environment meet the needs ana relevance of university in order to achieve the stated objectives, inadequate facilities and manpower challenges are highly responsible for the decline of private universities in the country. The study recommends, among others that continuous monitoring of private universities for accreditation should align with the minimum standard specified by the National Universities Commission, there is need for adequate funding in order to ensure the provision of adequate facilities and infrastructure.en_US
