Abstract
The leaf essential of Solanum aethiopicum obtained by hydrodistillation was analysed by GC-MS to reveal twenty-five (25) constituents, which accounted for 98.07% of the total oil composition. Of the twenty-five constituents detected, twenty (20) compounds which accounted for 90.3% of the leaf oil were identified. The major compound was methyl eugenol (36.5%), other prominent compounds were phytol (19.0%), -pinene (7.5%), g-gurjunene (5.9%) and methylisoeugenol (5.1%).
