dc.description.abstractThe suul» attempted 10 [ind out whether schools in Lagos State were cost-effective and also examined the volume of resources allocated to secondary schools, the adequacy oJ sucli resources (JI/(/ the effects on the performance of students. The-descriptive surrey and correlational research design were ne/opted for the study. The stratified random sampling technique was employed in the selection of seven out of the twenty Local Education Districts in the State. Out of the secondary schools in these seven districts.. five were randomly selected ji'OTII each of them bringing the number to 35 schools. Two sets of questionnaire were .prepared, validated and used to collect data for the study. The statistical techniques used were stepwise regression and 't' test. Results oJ the data analysis showed that secondary schools ill the ruralareas were more cost-effective than secondary schools in the urban areas. The study concluded by recommending that attention should be directed at those variables which are within the control of policy makers to improve the effectiveness of the school system; particularly ill the urban areas.en_US
