dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to determine the effects of regular physical inactivity on lean body weight of University of Lagos undergraduate students. The participants for the study consisted of forty two males, aged between eighteen and thirty years who were randomly selected from a total of one hundred and twenty students. The experimental group was treated with the circuit strength training programme after pretest and post test data were collected on height, body weight and Skinfold measures of participants using approved standard stediometer, Calibrated bathroom weighing scale, Skinfold Caliper and anthropometric tape. Tests to determine the effect of regular physical inactivity on lean body weight at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation and range were used to describe the collected data. Inferential statistics of independent 't' test was used to compare both groups, to see if any significant difference exists between them. There were no significant differences between the participants in lean body weight, t = 0,509 (tc = 2.021, df= 40 P > 0.05). Difference in means of 0.19 for experimental group and 1.45 for control group shows that body fat increase was higher in the control group than experimental group. It was therefore concluded that physical inactivity promotes increase in body fat and a decrease in lean body weight. It was recommended from the results that students should participate in moderate intensity physical activities of circuit training programme (20—30) minutes, three times in a week for body weight reduction.en_US
