Abstract
Results: Mean age ± SD of the respondents was 42.18±9.51 years with age range between 18 – 61 years. Most (76.7%) of the respondents were married, with male:female ratio of 1:1.4 and 93.3% had tertiary education. Majority (94.0%) of the respondents were aware of cervical cancer and (68.1%) of cervical cancer screening methods. Most (64.8%) of the female respondents had heard of cervical cancer vaccination compared to (38.7%) of male respondents. Majority (95.2%) of the male respondents were willing to allow their spouses get screened and vaccinated. About 44.3% of the female respondents had ever been screened and 8.0% ever vaccinated. Gender was found to be statistically associated with the overall knowledge of the respondents. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study among 150 male and female non-teaching staff of LASUCOM was conducted using a multistage sampling technique and a semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20 and presented in percentage, standard deviation and bivariate analysis of categorical variables with statistical significance set at P ˂0.05. ABSTRACT Objective: The main aim of the study was to assess cervical cancer knowledge, preventive practices and vaccination uptake among the non-teaching staff of Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja. Conclusion: There was a relatively good knowledge about cervical cancer screening methods but poor vaccination uptake. Male respondents' willingness to support screening and vaccination was optimal. Sustainable advocacy for a national/state screening program, public enlightenment and community engagement should be promoted.
