Abstract
This study investigated motivation as a predictor of academic achievement am,ißi behavior modification among senior secondary school studenrs in Lagos state. sample size Qftwo-hundred andfifty (female, n = 144; male, n 106) respondent} from ten secondary schools in Mushin Local Government Area ofLagos state wen! used. Researchers ' structured and validated questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The test-retest reliability value obtained fbr the instrumeffl!l using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-€fjicient was 0.84. Data was carried out with the use offrequency counts andpercentagesfor demograph]ÆI data and Chi-square for the variables studied. Findings revealed that intrinsic,' motivation, extrinsic motivation, incentives and rewards would have significajüil" g/fect on academic achievement of senior secondary school students' in Mushil!ll'l Local Govermnent Area of Lagos state. Based on thefindings, it is reconnnend±'GIl rhat lhe Federal Ministry of Education in association with various governments should ensure regular provision of scholarships and monetarr• rewards 10 students./br excellent academic perfbrmance to motivate them.
