In Nigeria, mother-to-child transmission contributes to one of the main process by which HIV is transmitted. Male involvement in prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) programs improves the use of interventions. This study was conducted to determine the knowledge and attitude of the PMTCT among married men in Mushin Lagos, Nigeria. In this community-based cross sectional survey, multistage sampling technique was used to select 382 married men who were interviewed in their homes with a structured questionnaire and data collected were analyzed using Epi-info version 7.1.1 statistical software. Majority (77.7%) of the respondents were aware that a mother with HIV can transmit the infection to her child. However, less than half knew that it can occur during breastfeeding (48.2%), during pregnancy (37.2%) and during labor or delivery (34.6%). Quite a high proportion (44%) of respondents were not aware that it was possible to prevent transmission of HIV from an infected mother to her child. Most (69.6%) of the respondents had good knowledge about HIV and PMTCT. Monogamous marriage (OR: 2.27, CI: 1.08-4.76) and post-secondary education (OR: 5.13, CI: 2.58-10.18) were associated with good knowledge. Most (59.4%) of the respondents had a positive attitude towards PMTCT and educational level was positively associated with attitude. Efforts need to be intensified to increase awareness of PMTCT among married men and also to improve their attitude.en_US
