dc.description.abstractThe female breast is a very vital organ of the body which females are conscious about and are usually very depressed when this organ is showing any abnormal signs, symptoms or disease. This makes prevention of diseases related to the breast very important to females. Hence, early identification of breast diseases or abnormalities by a Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is an important and inexpensive method to explore. It involves looking and feeling of the breast by the individual and reporting any changes observed to a care provider for further care. The objective of the study is to assess the knowledge and practice of BSE among female staff of University of Lagos, women society (ULWS). A descriptive survey research and purposive sampling technique was used. A self-structured questionnaire was used and data analysed with chi-square and SPSS version 16. The results revealed that, 89% female staff are aware of BSE, 56.4% know how to perform BSE but only 32.7% are still practicing BSE. It was therefore concluded that female staff of the University of Lagos women Society have sufficient knowledge, awareness of breast cancer and fair practice of BSE.en_US
