| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to examine the role of occupational risk assessment as a tool for minimizing workplace accidents. Occupational health should aim at the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations, the protection of workers in their employment from risks resulting from factors that have adverse effect on their health. This paper was discussed under the following headings; concepts and definition of workplace hazards and accidents, causes of accidents in the workplace, types of workplace accidents, occupational risk assessment as a tool for minimizing workplace accidents. Based on the findings the following recommendations were mad; workers should take reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts of omissions or commissions at work and also employers should carryout prompt and regular risk assessment programme in the working environment and also ensure that all identified risks and hazards are taken care off. | en_US |
