This article investigates the potential of digital terrestrial television to provide a competitive platform for future broadcasting applications. High-definition TV (HD) is assumed as a future standard for all TV applications. The number of programmes that can be accommodated in a multiplex when applying new source coding techniques (MPEG-4) and new channel coding techniques (DVB-T2) is assessed and the possibilities available within the GE06 Agreement are discussed.en_US
