Abstract
A new series of copper(II) complexes of Schiff bases prepared by condensation of isonicotinic acid hydrazide and substituted benzaldehyde, L1-L4 was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, IHNMR as well as inOlar conductance .The ligands act it' tlieir iniidol form and a square planar geometry was proposed for all the complexes. The low molar conductance values indicate that all the complexes are non-electrolytes. . The in vitro effect of the compounds on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Enterococcus feacalis ATCC 29212, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 was studied by agar ditch method .AU (he compounds were active against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli while those with fluorinated ligands were also active against Enterococcus feacalis. The results indicate that the nature of the substiliienl affected the aclivity of the compounds.
