Abstract
The Nigerian youths can effectively take their position in the global workplace only if they are adequately prepared in practical skills, attitude and knowledge. Technology education has been vested with the responsibility of training the youth in various practical skills for empowerment. Three research questions were raised for the study and a survey design was adopted. The population for the study was 100 lecturers from all the tertiary institutions in Lagos State offering technology education courses. A structured questionnaire divided into three sections 'A-C' was used as the instrument for data collection. Section 'A' has 11 items and seeks information on factors that can enhance the sustainability of technology education while section 'B' has seven items on the method adopted in training youths in practical skill acquisition. Section 'C' has ten items on challenges to the sustainability of technology education. The responses to the questionnaire items were designed on four point response mode. The data collected was organized and analyzed using mean. The finding of the study revealed that technology education can be sustained by regular monitoring and evaluation of the programme, equipped workshops with modern technologies and quarterly report to the mother ministry. Private sector to corroborate with government to fund technology education, researches and to sponsor staff to conferences, workshops and seminars. It was recommended that regular monitoring and evaluation of technology education programme be carried out, technology education departments or institutions be attached to industries, and facilities in technology education to be adequately maintained.
