Abstract
Sustainable infrastructural development is aimed at meeting the most basic needs of the
emerging population inthe cities. However, to foster sustainable infrastructural development, there is a need for community integration in urban development in Nigeria.
Individuals should be encouraged to interact in communities where they live and
participate in civic life. Although the provision of essential services is the primary
function of government in all societies of the world, well-meaning individuals in the
society can be inspired to interact and actively participate in the development of their
communities by contributing their own resources to the provision of essential social
services needed in their immediate environments/communities. This paper discussed the
sustainable infrastructural development in cities as it relates to provision of basic
amenities such as housing, clean water supply, and sanitation. It also highlights
community integration in urban development and sustainable infrastructural
development in Nigeriaas a way to achieving SDG 6.
