dc.description.abstractThis study examines the potential of stabilizing lateritic soil with Pulverized Beans Husks (PBH) for road pavement construction. The effects of adding 0 – 12.50 % PBH on the engineering properties of lateritic soil were investigated. Chemical composition, index and strength tests were conducted to evaluate the effect of PBH on the lateritic soil. Silicon Oxide and Calcium Oxide were the predominant oxides in both the lateritic soil and PBH. Liquid limit (LL) and plastic limit (PL) of the lateritic soil increased with increase in PBH while the plasticity index (PI) decreased. Maximum dry density (MDD) decreased with increase in PBH while the optimum moisture content (OMC) increased. California bearing ratio (CBR) and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) decreased with increase in PBH. The results indicated that PBH alone cannot be used to improve the strength properties of lateritic soil for road pavement construction.en_US
