Abstract
I am delighted to welcome you all to the 54th Convocation Ceremonies of the University of Lagos, which formally began with a PreConvocation Press Conference on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
These ceremonies are a significant part of life in the university and over the next three days, recognitions and rewards will be given to undergraduate and postgraduate students from all Faculties, the Distance Learning Institute (DLI), and the University of Lagos Business School, for years of diligence and application of self to the pursuit of excellence.
Without doubt, I know many of you have looked forward to this day - a day you will remember with fondness for many years to come. I congratulate all graduating students for your diligence, resilience, and the hard work you put into completing your respective programmes. You .have been trained and tutored and found worthy in character and learning for you to be celebrated and honoured here, today. I congratulate your family and friends who encouraged and supported you along the way, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to them all. I welcome to our University, the Visitor, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. We acknowledge the courageous leadership that you have offered the country since your assumption of office. In particular, we appreciate the attention you are giving to the myriad problems in the education sector. You can be assured of our support. To our Chancellor, the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Eminence, Alhaji supported by a World Bank grant through the African Centre of Excellence for. Drug Research, Herbal medicine development and Regulatory SCience (ACEDHERS). The centre Director Dr. Bola Ademilua worked extremely hard with her team to achieve this. This is the first time we will have such a harvest of international students at one convocation in the history of this University and this further reiterates and validates the aggressive internationalisation drive of this administration and previous administrations.
