Influence of Organisational Climate Variables on Goal Attainment among Personnel in Public and Private Sports Organisations in Nigeria

Abstract
The focus of this study was to determine the difference and the extent to which organisational climate influence goal, attainment of personnel in public and private sports organisations in Nigeria. The organisational climate variable studied were reward system and decision making process in public and private sports organisation in Nigeria. Two hypotheses were postulated and tested in the study. The descriptive research method was adopted for the study. A total of four hundred and eighty (480) participants were used as sample in the study. They were selected through a stratified random sampling technique. Two research instruments Organisational Climate Questionnaire (OCQ) and Personal Goal Attainment Questionnaire (PGAQ) with reliability co-efficient of OCQ 0.85 and PGAQ 0.89 were used for study. The data collected and collated were used to develop a descriptive statistic of simple percentage, mean, standard deviation in presenting the data collected. The inferential statistics of one-way analysis of variance were used in testing the hypotheses at 0.05 significant level. The scheffe test procedure was used in ascertaining the difference between all pairs of means. The findings obtained revealed that organizational climate variables influenced goal attainment of personnel in private and public sports organizations in Nigeria. The influence of was higher in private sports organisations than the public sports organisation. There was a difference in the influence of decision-making on goal attainment on personnel in public and private sports organizations. Decision making had the highest impact on goal attainment of personnel in large private sport organisations. It was recommended that reward system in sports organisation should be improved as it serves as an impetus to job performance and goal actualization.
