Work-Family Conflict, Job Satisfaction and Job Performance of Female Librarians in Nine Selected Federal Academic Libraries in South-West, Nigeria

Abstract
Purpose: The study was carried out to examine work-family conflict, job satisfaction and job performance of female librarians in nine selected federal academic libraries in South-West, Nigeria. Design/Method/ Approach: Descriptive survey design using simple random sampling was adopted for the study. The institutions covered include the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Federal University of Technology, (FUTA), Yaba College of Technology, Federal University, Oye, Ekiti, Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji and Federal Polytechnic, Ede. Ninety-three questionnaires were distributed to female librarians but sixty-seven (67) questionnaires were returned showing a response rate of 72%. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools. Hypotheses formulated in the study were tested using Pearson Product Moment Coefficient and Regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. Findings: Results showed that work-family conflicts have low effect on job satisfaction and job performance of female librarians. The study also found that the overall score on job satisfaction (mean=2.92) indicated that female librarians are satisfied with their job. In addition, the study also showed that there is no significant relationship between work-family conflict and job satisfaction (r=0.28, P>0.05). Implication: It was recommended that adequate consideration should be given to the development of guidelines in order to ensure that working hours does not affects the work-family of female librarians in Nigerian as well as provide supportive management policy in order to minimize the conflict between work and family. Originality/Value: This study is virtually the first of its kind that addresses work-family conflict, job satisfaction and job performance of female librarians in Nigeria academic libraries.
