Abstract
The use of alum in the chemical treatment of textile effluents was studied. Three different textile mill effluents from Ilupeju Industrial Estate in Lagoswere sampled and treated using alum. The pH of the effluents was adjusted with the range 4.0 and 8.0 using dilute hydrochloric acid and the effect of pH on the optimum coagulation was studied since each effluent had its own optimum isoelectric point. After clarification with alum, each affluent was further treated by adsorption using activated carbon results shgowed an optimum pH 5.0-6.0 for all the effluent. The BOD reduction was above 60% for all the treated effluents and COD was above 90% for all treated affluents
