dc.description.abstractThe Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) include countries that speak three international languages and, somehow, disagreement arises out of semantic-syntactic disparities expressed by the three languages used. Such disparities are seen in some parliamentary debates or conducts which are not in consonance with the “spirit of letters” expressed. For example, English say “point of order” which French expresses as “motion”. To a French monolingual minded person, it smacks of disrespect. There are many of such expressions and they needed to be studied in their philosophical contexts to re-establish parliamentary rules for ECOWAS that use French, English and Portuguese in their discourse processes. In this presentation, we intend to analyze some of the expressions seen in ECOWAS parliamentary debates so as to provide insight on how to avoid syntactic dissonance among the three languages as philosophical symmetrics of the expressions or otherwise, asymmetrics, are examined.en_US
