Abstract
The focus of this study was to ascertain the effects of intervening variables on administration of Grassroot sports and sports development. The sample used for the study was two hundred (200) subjects from ten (10) grassroots teams in Lagos state. The simple random sampling technique was used in selection of subjects for the study. The research questions were formulated and answered in the study. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire designed in the four-point rating scale mode. The survey research method was used in this study. The intervening variables studied were facilities and equipment, personnel, financial support, competition and Grassroot sport administration and sport development. The five research questions were analysed and tested using percentage for demographic information and inferential statistics of chi-square(X2) was used to determine significant effect of variables on administration of Grassroot sports and sports development. The findings obtained revealed that: inadequate facilities, equipment is a recurring issue in Grassroot sports, and coaching, this in turn affect sports development, inadequate financial support at Grassroot level affect sports development, and organised competitions for Grassroot teams affect sports development. it is recommended that modern facilities should be constructed and made accessible to participants of sports at the Grassroot level and that government should subsidize sports equipment of all types and made it affordable to users at the Grassroot level and corporate sponsorship should be encourage for Grassroot teams.
