dc.description.abstractThis study specifically investigated the availability of laboratory facilities and utilization oJ school Jacilities as correlates oJ students' academic performance in chemistry in some senior secondary schools oJ Lagos state. Laboratory Jacilities are an essential part of educational planning which enhance students' academic performance; unfortunately most schools have limited supply. A correlation survey design was adopted; 550 (500 students and 50 teachers) from ten out of the 22 schools were randomly selected from Oshodi/Isolo local government area oJ Lagos state. Two sets of Questionnaire (A Jor the teachers and B Jor the students) were developed by the researcher to collect information, and the data collected was analysed with Pearson product moment correlation. The study found a significant positive relationship between availability and utilization oJ laboratory facilities and academic performance of chemistry students. The study concluded that when the laboratory Jacilities are in place, functional and utilized, effective teaching and learning occurs. Based on the findings it was recommended that the government should ensure that the [acilities are provided in all the senior secondary schools, the curriculum implementers be encouraged to make use oJ the facilities in educational process to enhance academic performance in the students especially in chemistry.en_US
