dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the administrative challenges facing the management of technical and vocational schools in South East Region of Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted for .the study. The population for the study was 157, consisting of 15 directors and three directors, both at the five states of South East and Federal Zonal Ministry of Education, (South East) respectively. Five unit heads of the five States Secondary Schools (Technical) Management Board, 15 Principals and 119 Heads of Departments in Technical Colleges in the five States of South East. A 30-item structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The study showed that indiscipline among both staff and students, poor staff/principal relationship, workshop management, recruitment of qualified technical teachers, record keeping and availability of fund are factors that challenge technical and vocational administrators. It was recommended that principals should establish good rapport with their teachers and students to help promote discipline in the school, commercialize their workshops to generate money. Government should release enough money on time to schools. Staff should compulsorily sign the school's time book and also keep records of events.
