University education and challenges of accessibility by the girl-child in Nigeria

dc.description.abstractThe paper examined the issues bordering on university education and the challenges of acces the girl-child and suggested different options and strategies to use in order to enhance girl-c accessibility and equity to education. The study employed the use of ex-post facto rese ~ design with three hypotheses tested to arrive at the findings. The sample size comprised 1._ lecturers and 2,400 undergraduate students selected from twelve universities, samples for : study was based on four federal universities, four state universities and four private 0\ universities. Observation and questionnaire were the instrument used for data collection, an test was the statistical tool used to analyse the data. Among the major findings of the stud that accessibility to university education is open to all eligible candidates irrespective of _ differences; access to university education by female children does not depend on whether . children were located in urban or rural areas and that the attitude of children towards univ _ education has nothing to do with the disparity in gender among children in the South We part of Nigeria. The study concluded by recommending among others that education makers, should put machinery in motion to encourage girl-child education in order to im the rate of enrolment for female children.en_US
