This paper examined the internationalization of university education in Nigeria. University education is the highest level of educational institution that is expected toproduce serious intellectual stimulation through its academic content. It can also be seen as an intellectual or academic centre where international standards are set and the nation's high level manpower are produced for all facets of national development both for present and future generations. Nigeria has had a 64-year university education experience yet none of the 124 universities in Nigeria can boast of required international standard. This is evident from the fact that no Nigerian university is among the top 200 universities in the uiarld as ranked by the Times Higher education. This paper shall further examine the need for internationalization of universities in the perspective of staff and students' mobility and inter institutional collaboration. The risks and benefits associated with internationalization of Nigerian Universities, as well as challenges and ways forward shall be discussed. Despite the efforts made to improve the quality and standards in the Nigerian universities, effort is still being made to enhance standards and quality to meet up with what obtains in Ivy League universities in the world.
