dc.description.abstract | This paper posits that the concept of information use as practiced in modern librarianship has its antecedent in the Bible. The paper made several instances from the Bible to prove that obedience (Information use) to God's word remains very central in God's relationship with man just as information use is the ultimate aim in librarianship as seen in Ranganathan 'sfirst law of library science which states that 'Books are for use '. In other words, information is of no obvious importance until it is put into proper use. To the researcher, this has the same implication as obedience to God's word as enunciated in the Bible. Man cannot benefit from God's word unless he puts it in action through obedience. The word of God (the Bible) exists as a pivot to the activities of humanity from the beginning of times. There is hardly any area of human activity that does not have its root imbedded in God's word therefore the issue of information use is not an exception. It is also the only condition that guarantees eternal life just as use of information is used in problem solving. It also ensures increase in our knowledge base as well as reduces uncertainty. Essentially, this paper traces a correlation between information use in modern librarianship and obedience to God's word as being central in man's ability to have a better quality of life as he brings solution to a myriad of problems through information use as a library concept or obedience to God's word as seen in the Bible. | en_US |
