dc.description.abstract | Thermogravimetric analysis was used to analyze chitin thermal stability present in unprocessed and processec snail shell sanples using different concentrations of Hel and NaOH. The res !t shows that 42% of CaC03 in the snail shell decomposes between 699-779 "C while decomposition of chitin (2.11 %) starts at 275°C and ends at 335 "C. De-mineralization and de-proteinization of the snail shell using 1.5 M H I and 0.4 M KaOH eliminates CaC03 formation and sample shows existence of 60% chitin decomposing between 346 and 412°C. The XRD of virgin snail shell showing the mai diffraction face inensity for CaC03 occurring at 28 = 29.S" with other CaC03 peaks occur at 28 == 30.2°, 39.3", 41.0°, 44.2°, 45.9°, 48.9°, 51.5°, 53.1 ° and 55.6°. Chitin present c ccurs at reflection 28 =: 36.3° with weak intensity and the XRD shows no evidence of CaC03 but two chitin crystalline peaks at 20.6° and 26.3° wi h 78% owest crystallinity index. | en_US |
