Abstract
This study examined the effect of forgiveness on the resolution of marital conflict among couples in Lagos
Nigeria. One hundred and fifty (150) married men and women were randomly selected from five local government
areas in Lagos metropolis. The sample comprised 75 married men and 75 married women representing 30
subjects of equal sexes from each of the five local government areas selected for the study. A self-designed
questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was validated through a pilot study: Two research
hypotheses were stated to guide the study. One- way analysis of variance and Independent t-rest statistical methods
were used to analyze data at 0.05 level of significance. The result brained indicates that there is a significant
influence of forgiveness on conflict resolution in marriage among couples and there was a significant gender
difference between levels of forgiveness among couples. The counselling implications were discussed and
recommendations made based on the findings.
