dc.description.abstractThis study examined the influence of professionalism and financial reforms on the development ofsports in Lagos State Sports Commission. Two hypotheses were postulated and tested in this study. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised the administrative staff of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, chairmen, secretaries, coaches and athletes ofselected sports associations in Lagos state sports Commission, Lagos, Nigeria. One hundred (100) administrative staff, coaches, athletes and other members ofthe sports associations ofthe Lagos state sport Commission was drawn using purposive sampling technique in selecting the samples. A self-developed and structure questionnaire was usedfor this study. It was equally validated by a team of professionals in thefield ofsports administration tojustify the construct and content validity of the instrument. The test-retest method was used to establish the reliability of the measuring instrumentfor this study. The result of the reliability was 0.84 which indicated that the instrument used was reliable. The chi-square (xA2) statistical analysis was used to test stated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Result from the study indicated that professionalism and financial reforms implementation has significant effects on sports development among selectedsportsfederation in Lagos state Sports Commission. This study hereby recommends that the government should encourage the use ofprofessionals to improve on sportspolicy and also aid the development ofsports in Lagos State.en_US
