This study examines the long and short-run impact relationship between international reserves and nominal official exchange rate for economy of Nigeria using annually time series data started from 1980 to 2014. Empirically, the study uses the unit root test, cointegration test and an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL model to dilate an econometrics long run equilibrium international reserves. The empirical evidence show that one lagged value of official exchange rate are negatively associated with the Nigerian international reserves on the long run. This study saw oil export as the major contribution to the Nigerian international reserve, while imports and external debts as the factors that inversely affect the Nigerian international reserves both in long and short run. The study recommended that to increase international reserve holding, it is essential to pursue and implement monetary policies that can considerably relax the binding constraint on the availability of foreign exchange particularly for exporting firms and also, Government should effectively control the volume of imports in order to minimize its import bill whilst at the same time trying to diversify its exports in a bid to boost export earnings in order to accumulate more foreign reserve.en_US
