| dc.description.abstract | The study examined the influence of mothering on the emotional and social adjustment of adolescents in Lagos State Secondary schools. 140 students from seven Lagos State Secondary Schools formed the sample for the study. The findings revealed that there was a statistically significant difference in the level of social adjustment of the adolescents living in mother-present homes compared with those living in mother-absent homes. It was therefore concluded that mothers play a very significant difference was recorded in the level of the social adjustment of the adolescents of democratic mothers compared with those of autocratic mothers. Some of the Family Counseling implications discussed include the re-establishment of the fact that mothers play very important roles in the lives of their children and they should be counseled to realize that and really work a keeping a love-based home. Also, it was pointed out that not just the biological mother, but all in position of influence on the growing children should be enlightened to provide conducive atmosphere for them to become all round health adults. | en_US |
