Effects of ICTs on teaching and learning outcomes among lecturers and undergraduate students of distance learning institute in University of Lagos and Lagos State University, Nigeria

Abstract
The study examined the effect of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on the teaching and learning outcomes among lecturers and undergraduate students of distance learning institutes in Lagos State, Nigeria. Three research questions as well as three hypotheses were developed to guide the study. The descriptive research survey design was employed to gather data. The target population of the study are lecturers and all the undergraduate students of Distance Learning Institute (DU) University of Lagos and Lagos State University. A total of 300 respondents were randomly selected for the study using the stratified random sampling technique. The hypotheses developed were tested using the Pearson Product of Moment Correlation Coefficient and t-test statistical tools. The results showed a significant effect of ICTs on teaching among lecturers on one hand, and a significant effect of ICTs on learning among undergraduate students on the other hand. Moreover, a significant relationship was also found between the use of ICTs, teaching and learning outcomes among participants in the Distance Learning Institutes. In conclusion, ICTswas found to be a veritable tool in distance education, their use should be sustained and improved upon, for better teaching and learning experiences in Distance education. The study recommends that, authorities should ensure that Distance Learning Institutes are well equipped with modern technological gadgets as well as provide adequate teaching and learning materials for lecturers and distance learners.
