| dc.description.abstract | This study aimed at identifying the proximate and underlying drivers of land use changes in Southwest Nigeria. Structured questionnaires were administered to stakeholders including households, forest users, community leaders and government agencies. Statistical analyses such as cross tabulation analysis, context analysis and measures of central tendency were used to assess the residents’ opinion. The result showed that the major factors that influences land use were population increase, urbanization, agricultural practices and poverty. This study therefore recommends that incentives, environmental education and international conventions should be encouraged amongst public and private individuals to influence their new decisions which aimed at sustainable development, environmental-friendly technology, and reduction in greenhouse gases | |
